Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande Continues To Attract Admirers

Parvin Dabas’s debut as writer-director current movie Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande was a stirring tale of a group of galat bandes finding their conscience and working for a big cause. Coming at a time that so many people in the country were engaging in a cause bigger than their individual selves, it was no surprise that the message of the movie resonated with the public. “Ours was a small film with a big message,” said Dabas. “The total budget including print and publicity was just 4 crore and despite the theatrical run having started slowly, it has remained steady with positive word of mouth and appreciative reviews.”

What Dabas is most gratified about is that his movie has added to the conversation in the country to issues of corruption and empowerment, issues and causes that he as a citizen completely supports. “Yes, there are a lot of pressing issues because of which some audience members might not have been in the mood to watch films, but the idea behind my movie was not only to make money, but to raise consciousness. Our low budget has ensured that we have more than recovered our investment through satellite, home video, digital and other rights. And Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande will remain a testament of these dramatic times for ever and ever.”

With the winds of change blowing over the country, Dabas’s approach to his film is to be commended. It is only further proof of commitment and fervour that was evident in every frame of his movie. And as we send this out, Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande is entering its second week of run.
