The Dirty Picture (2011) movie review

Box office Bollywood The Dirty Picture (2011)

Rating- 8/10

Direction:   To make a film on 80’s and to create the sets as per that era is certainly not an easy task.  But, Milan Luthria succeeds in delivering a brave and wonderful film like The Dirty Picture. Well narrated and wonderfully executed, The Dirty Picture is sure to strike a chord with the avid moviegoer. The films stands out because of Rajat Aroraa's dynamic script and razor-sharp dialogue.

The riveting screenplay and power-packed dialogue will remain etched in our memory for a long, long time, eliciting a similar response like Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai.

The writing holds the spectators' interest and doesn't let you digress from the screen, except for a few minutes in the post-interval portions.

Acting:  Vidya's sizzling show and dare-bare act is sure to seize the viewers by complete astonishment. It's a novel casting because it is nothing like what Vidya has done before and is completely diverse to her image. But let's give Vidya the due: She delivers an astounding performance, pushing the envelope yet again.

Naseeruddin Shah expectedly is brilliant playing an ageing South Indian superstar. He pulls of the role with élan. One has to credit Emraan Hashmi for willing to take on bold, aggressive characters. Tusshar Kapoor had hardly  anything to do in the film.

Rockstar (2011) Movie preview

Director:Imtiaz Ali
Producer:Dhillin Mehta
Starring:Ranbir Kapoor, Nargis Fakhri
Release Date:11-11-2011

Rockstar

Rating- 8/10

Direction:

Imtiaz Ali is a genius. The film bears the stamp of an accomplished storyteller. This is a forward-thinking film that handles the new-age relationships with complete understanding. The songs compliment the goings-on beautifully. This is amongst Rahman’s accomplished works.

Acting:

Hot Bollywood celebrity Ranbir Kapoor carries the most difficult parts with remarkable ease. Sure, we've seen him as the cool, urban guy in several films, but this one's the most demanding role and only a seasoned actor could've delivered it with such precision.
Nargis doesn’t looks like a new comer. She not just looked pretty in each frame but also carried off each role effortlessly.

Script:

Rockstar is a musical film based on a character Janardan Jakhar (Ranbir Kapoor) who is born and brought up in the very middle class locality of Pitampura in Delhi, has a larger than life dream - of being a rockstar like Jim Morrison! But all he gets from his reluctant audience is ridicule and humiliation.

He's at his wit's end, when he realizes that all musical stars; all artists in fact, have one thing in common. And that is tragedy. They all have tragic lives.

They have all suffered painful heartbreaks to become what they are. Alas, there is no pain in Janardan's life - it is an oasis of peace. Unless he does something drastic, he will never become a rockstar. Heer Kaul is the undisputed diva of the college campus - beautiful, talented, arrogant, rich, and unavailable. She has broken many hearts. . Janardan hopes she will break his heart too. He sets out to woo Heer with the sole object of getting his heart broken.

Rock star is the journey of a boy - who leaves behind Janardan to become Jordan; who traverses the highs and lows of life - from simple naivete to tortured soul, from the pleasure of unaffected friendship to the torment of unrequited love, from the campus in Delhi to the international stage… He ultimately gets all that his heart has ever desired…but in the process shatters / loses his heart forever.

Verdict:

On the whole, Rockstar is for the young and romantic at heart. Sure, it's not perfect, but the terrific performances, melodious music and stirring emotional moments more than compensate for the hiccups.

RA.One (2011) Movie review

Current Movie Review  of  RA.ONE
Rating- 9/10

Direction:***
Director Anubhav Sinha along with co-writers David Benullo, Kanika Dhillon and Mushtaq Shiekh may be inspired by international flicks as far as the concept is concerned, but they ensure that they serve the right masala to moviegoers in those 2.30 hours. What actually takes you by complete surprise is not just the money spent on visual effects or the stunning chase and action scenes, but the twists and turns in the screenplay that unravel at a feverish pace.

RA.ONE

Acting:***

RA.ONE is a perfect vehicle that does justice to the talent of Shah Rukh Khan. He seems to have found a story and character that work in perfect sync and tandem with manic energy. SRK steers this physically challenging lead role with high-spirited self-belief. He's endearing as the father and magnificent as the superhero with a heart. Kareena Kapoor is a delight to watch. She effortlessly glides into the character. Besides, she looks ethereal in the 'Chammak Chhallo' song and her wit is infectious. Arjun Rampal pulls his act with effortlessness and style. Also, Arjun's well-designed look is admirable.
Armaan Verma, the kid who has a pivotal part to portray. He stands shoulder to shoulder with SRK and Kareena all through the film and delivers a super-confident performance.

Script:***

A father tries hard to fit into his son's world. While Shekhar [Shah Rukh Khan]  tries every trick in the book to woo his son, his son had given up on him. Just when the father-son duo hit a deadlock, Shekhar strikes gold when he designs one hell of a game. Finally, it all starts falling in place. But the happiness is short-lived. All hell breaks loose when the game that was meant to be played with, starts playing them.

Music:****

The album of the film lives up to the grand expectations. Vishal-Shekhar deliver a striking score with 'Chammak Chhallo', 'Dildaara' and 'Raftarein' being the pick of the lot. The background score, also recorded by them, is equally electrifying. V. Manikandan and Nicola Pecorini's cinematography is top notch. Same goes for the stunts and chases [Andy Gill and Spiro Razatos]. Dialogue [Kanika Dhillon and Niranjan Iyengar] are hardly ever commonplace. What I found most interesting is that, whether humorous or thoughtful, the channel of communication appears very credible. The Ra.One and G.One suits, designed by Robert Kurtzman, are super.

Verdict:

RA.ONE is the most ambitious, most expensive and the most technologically complex Hindi film ever made. It pushes the envelope further. It's not merely a film, but an experience, an event. It's a film that will rewrite the textbook of computer graphics in Hindi cinema. RA.ONE is sure to shatter all previous records and set new ones, in India as well as internationally.

Force (2011) movie review

Director:Nishikant Kamat
Producer:Vipul Shah
Starring:John Abraham, Genelia Dsouza, Vidyut Jamwal, Raj Babbar, Mohnish Bahl, Mukesh Rishi, Sandhya Mridul
Release Date:30-09-2011

Rating- 4/10

Force (2011) movie : Bollywoodchaska.com

Direction: *

Director Nishikant Kamat has the viewers' adrenalin pumping in this engrossing crime drama. Velocity and technique are the essence of FORCE. Add to it sharp dialogues and raw action. Though the storyline is far from novel, it is these attributes that keep you engrossed. Also, this deadly cat-and-mouse game ends in a spellbinding climax. Very frankly, the film has some fairly engrossing moments in the first hour, but there are times when you feel restless.

Acting:*
From showing off his chiseled body to lifting a 120 kg bike, John Abraham is a complete revelation and gives an outstanding performance. It is obvious that John has worked really hard -- honing his acting skills, concentrating on stunts and particularly on his physique. Besides action and his physique if we talk about John’s acting then it is nasty. It seems he has forcefully acted in Force.
Genelia is strikingly sweet and subdued. Besides, the on-screen chemistry between John and Genelia is infectious. The villain, portrayed by newcomer Vidyut Jammwal, is a worthy opponent, who is the proverbial Evil pitted against Good. His persona is striking and his performance, excellent. This guy is here to stay and his performance will be talked-about when the movie hits the screens.

Script:*
Yashvardhan [John Abraham] is a senior narcotics officer who doesn't play by the book, but always ensures that justice is served. He believes that the only way to eradicate crime is to give criminals the bullet -- not handcuffs. In the midst of his most dangerous and significant operation to crack down on India's drug cartels, Yashvardhan encounters a ruthless enemy Vishnu [Vidyut Jammwal], who will stop at nothing until he gets his revenge for the damage done to his business by the narcotics team.

Yashvardhan also meets the free-spirited Maya [Genelia D'Souza], whose love pushes him to make a choice between the life he already knows and the life he could have with her. Just when everything seems to be going right, the enemy strikes.

It's the raw action that stays with you. The action scenes [Allan Amin] are the type that will have the masses go in frenzy, especially these two sequences -- the chase [John chases Vidyut, soon after Vidyut attacks him] and also the finale confrontation.

Verdict:

The film has the requisite amount of zing and force, so essential for action movies that talk of heroism. You won’t miss out a lot of masala if you give it a miss.

Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster movie review

Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster by Bollywoodchaska.com

Director:Tigmanshu Dhulia
Producer:Tigmanshu Dhulia, Rahul MittraStarring:Jimmy Sheirgill, Mahie Gill, Randeep Hooda
Release Date:30-09-2011

Direction: ****
Director Tigmanshu Dhulia, known for his political thrillers ( Haasil, Shagird ) attempts to revisit the classic love story of Sahib Bibi aur Ghulam (Meena Kumari - Guru Dutt) in contemporary times and a North Indian countryside setting. While deriving the essence from the original, his interpretation of the tale has an attitude and identity of its own, thereby averting any categorical comparisons.

Tigmanshu Dhulia gets the grammar of his milieu absolutely accurate. One can see royalty fading away through the paint peeling off the walls of Saheb's ancestral mansion. The mannerisms of the noblemen are as aptly captured as the polish in their language. Dialogues, undoubtedly, are a major highlight of the film with a powerful punch or a caustic remark in every second line. They don't write it like this anymore!

The director, at no point, lets the romance track overpower the original conniving essence of the film. Babloo falls for Biwi pretty early in the plot without the traditional trappings of a love story and yet their chemistry is credibly convincing. To achieve that the film employs explicit physical intimacy between the two, which despite being audacious, is never tawdry.

Acting:****
All the three title leads come up with brilliant performances and each character is so strongly written that no one overshadows the other. Jimmy Sheirgill has impressive screen presence and is authoritative in his commanding characterization of Saheb. Mahie Gill has the sensuality and maturity to pull off the role of Biwi with perfect poise. Her eccentricity, intimacy and deception add assorted shades and depth to her character.

Randeep Hooda plays the best character of his career so far and gets immense scope to show his performance prowess. The passion, obsession, emotions and expressions he brings to his character is simply outstanding. Deepraj Rana as the Saheb's loyal aide is a man of few words but strong screen presence. Shreya Narayan as the mistress exudes rustic sex-appeal. Vipin Sharma makes for a good negative lead. Deepal Shaw is decent as long as she lasts in her short-lived character.

Script:*****

Aditya Pratap Singh is Saheb (Jimmy Sheirgill) in his story, coming from a royal lineage, though royalty seems to be evading him with changing times. He struggles to maintain his regal lifestyle through his own political nexus. Biwi (Mahie Gill) is his third wife who yearns for Saheb's attention but he is too busy with his mistress. A smalltime gangster Babloo (Randeep Hooda) is appointed as the new driver of Saheb's wife. Soon enough, the lovelorn wife falls for Babloo, resulting into a lethal illicit affair. But there's more than what meets the eye.

Saheb Biwi aur Gangster has to its merit a taut and crisp script that never gives you a moment to blink and keeps you riveted through its runtime. All three protagonists have shades of grey but are so strongly developed that there is no single character that you are rooting for all through the film. And since you are almost equally inclined towards each of them, the narrative turns more unpredictable and interesting for you. Even the supporting characters - be it Saheb's loyal aide Kanhaiya, his mistress Mahua or his step-mom are integral to the narrative, adding density to the drama.

Verdict:
Strongly recommended. A must watch!

Tere Mere Phere Movie review

Director : Deepa Sahi
Producer: Anup Jalota, Ketan Mehta
Starring:Vinay Pathak, Riya Sen, Jagrat Desai, Sasha Goradia
Release Date: 30-09-2011

Rating- 2/10

Direction : **
It's certainly not a flying start for the film, as things go terribly wrong in the very first scene, where commotion ensues on an aircraft as if it were a fish market. Hereon there's no looking back. Actor-turned-director Deepa Sahi gets the grammar of slapstick filmmaking accurate, ensuring decibel levels never go down and pandemonium persists.

Acting :**
The consistently amateurish and deafening performances of both Sasha Goradia and Jagrat Desai only add to your trauma. Jagrat Desai also doubles up as the co-writer with Deepa Sahi to ascertain that the script is as much dull, dreary and dreadful. Enough has been spoken about Jagrat Desai and Sasha Goradia (though not as much as they jabber in the film). Vinay Pathak has been overdoing his underplayed act. The best that Sushmita Mukherjee does is gorge on rasgullas . Co-producer Anup Jalota can't resist a (dismal) cameo. Rohan Shah irritates. Thankfully Riya Sen is in a special appearance!

Script **
Rahul (Jagrat Desai) and Pooja (Sasha Goradia) are on their Himalayan honeymoon in a travel trailer. Imagine a romantic getaway in a self-driven caravan? And by no means is this a road movie! Tere Mere Phere is a wannabe attempt on the lines of 'Vinay Pathak brand' films like Chalo Dilli or Bheja Fry 2 about an incidental journey between two strangers, their contrasting chemistry and Pathak's co-passenger being victimized by his eccentricities. Just this time, it's Vinay Pathak who is at the receiving end and the contrasting chemistry is between the married couple.

Three days since their marriage, Rahul and Pooja are at loggerheads. Jai (Vinay Pathak) is aboard their caravan in a desperate attempt to reach ladylove Muskaan (Riya Sen) before she gets married off to someone else. But Rahul and Pooja's constant bickering gets so irritating (literally) that you don't blame Jai in losing faith in the institution of marriage by the climax.

The gist of the film comes from the theory that 'men are from Mars and women are from Venus'. And so focused is the film towards its central idea that it has nothing else on show but the constant clashes between the couple. The basic flaw of the film is that it attempts to discuss a lifetime of men-woman compatibility issues merely through the course of their week-long honeymoon. Clearly it bites off more than it can chew. So their quarrels are exaggerated to the extent that it irritates you incessantly.

Verdict :
Tere Mere Phere makes for a perfect anti-date film. Watch it if you dare a date with distress!

Bodyguard roars yet again!

The star power of Hot Bollywood celebrity Salman Khan just doesn’t seize to amaze. As if the stupendous opening and success of Wanted, Dabangg and Ready was not enough to rave about, the actor’s latest blockbuster Bodyguard just set another record of a different kind.

Thanks to an innovative contest, with lucky winners getting free Bodyguard T-shirts, ticket sales at a chain of theatres belonging to the Rathi Group of Cinemas peaked again, with shows starting to run houseful once more in its third week.

“It was producer Atul Agnihotri’s idea to hold a contest at our theatres and give out Bodyguard T-shirts to the winners,” revealed exhibitor Akshaye Rathi of Rathi Group of Cinemas. “This initiative worked magic and ticket sales zoomed at all our theatres,” he added.

Atul Agnihotri said, “I’ve known  Akshaye since Hello and he’s always ready to do innovative promotions at his cinema chain. When the idea of Bodyguard T-shirts became such a big hit once the cast and crew started wearing them, we thought it would be a cool concept to extend it to Akshaye’s properties. We did it from the heart and are glad the idea of the T-Shirts is a super hit.”

Meanwhile, Bodyguard’s fortunes continue to overwhelm the industry. The film, made at a budget of 60 crores, made history in Indian cinema by earning 22 crores on the first day of its release. What’s more! In just three weeks of the release, the movie has crossed Dabangg’s India box-office figure of 141 crores, and emerged India’s second biggest grosser of all time.

Bodyguard- Highest Opening Ever At The Box Office

This year’s Eid release Bodyguard, opened with the smashing response. The Salman Khan film on the first day with packed houses all over the country and trade analysts predicts that the collections to be in the range of 18-20 crore.

In the past we have seen Salman’s Dabangg earned 14.35 Crores while 3 Idiots were two biggest openings.

Trade Expert Taran Adarsh says,“ Salman is something else now. I think the movie has earned almost `20 crore on day one and over the weekend, it will cross `85-90 crore.”

Komal Nahta is more conservative in his estimates and pegs the weekend collection at `65-70 crore. However, Nahta says the film has broken all international records too.

Nahta reveals, “In Dubai, the movie opened on Tuesday because that's when Eid was celebrated. While "Dabangg" had opened with 7 lakh dirhams (`87 lakh), "Bodyguard" made 11 lakh dirhams (`1.36 crore). In London, the movie opened with a collection of 60,000 pounds (`44.4 lakh) on Tuesday, which too is unheard of. It has broken all previous records for any Bollywood film.”

While analysts gives the credit to Salman for the massive collections, multiplex and single screen officials reveals about various strategies have come together to help the film.

Tinku Singh, group president, SRS group, says, “In NCR, we ran 53 shows in Faridabad, and 22 and 30 shows in Gurgaon and Indirapuram. The total collection on day one was `24 lakh. It is houseful across the country. After the "Aarakshan" fiasco, everyone's rejoicing with this movie. And the thing

to remember here is that the movie opened on a Wednesday, so it will have five days, plus two more weekends at least, to make a lot more money.”

Also, "Boduguard" opened to weekend pricing across most multiplexes, giving them much more revenue. However, PVR Cinemas chose to go ahead with weekday pricing for Wednesday, and reported 95% occupancy in the morning shows, and 100% occupancy towards the evening. Out of 550 shows in PVR halls, approximately 325 were played in Delhi and Punjab. Says Deepa Menon, vice president, corporate communications for PVR Cinemas, "The movie saw an excellent opening in Delhi-NCR, ending the day with nearly 95% occupancy, which is quite phenomenal. This definitely is one of the biggest openings on day one that we've seen."

Even in single-screen theatres, the film has done record-breaking business in Delhi-NCR. While Vishal in Rajouri Garden reported a total of `4.5 lakh in four shows, all four shows were houseful in Delite, said Sunil Parashar, media coordinator for Dellite. Sheila Cinema in Paharganj too, saw four full shows, totalling a collection of over `3 lakh. Says Parashar, "During "Ready", ticket prices had been increased by 20% even in single-screen halls. But for "Bodyguard", even at normal single-screen prices, the movie has broken all records. Most single screens are houseful till Sunday."

Salman refuses to believe 'Bodyguard' is a success: Atul Agnihotri

Bollywood celebrity Salman Khan is recovering after an eight-hour surgery in Pittsburgh and refuses to believe that his 'Bodyguard' has broken box-office records, says his brother-in-law and co-producer Atul Agnihotri.

Salman, who underwent surgery for a nerve problem that was causing exruciating pain in his head, jaws and cheeks, believes his family is just trying to cheer him up by telling him that 'Bodyguard' is rocking the box office.

'He is not totally convinced. He is thinking that we are saying this to cheer him up. This is because he is totally cut off from his regular sources. If he had been in Mumbai, he would have had more interaction, seen more TV and read editorials. There he is totally depending on what we are saying,' Atul, who co-produced the film with Reliance.

'Bodyguard', which released on Eid Wednesday, has surpassed the opening day box-office collection of 'Dabangg' (Rs.14.5 crore) and '3 Idiots' (Rs.13 crore) by garnering Rs.22 crore in the domestic market.

Salman, 45, is expected to be home in 10 days. He is currently under observation, said Atul.

First, they did some test on him and then he was subjected to the first medical procedure. The surgery went for eight hours. Now he is under three-day observation. I think tomorrow night (Saturday) or day after (Sunday) morning they will review and go for the next step. He

will be there for a week or 10 days more,? he said.

Atul is riding high on the unprecedented success of the Salman-Kareena Kapoor starrer action-drama, which has received overwhelming response from the audiences despite bad reviews.

We were expecting a good opening but the number has gone beyond our prediction. For us, before the release (of 'Bodyguard'), `Dabangg? was the benchmark. That we have surpassed, which is a great thing, he said.

The film is scoring high even in south despite being a Hindi remake of Malayalam film of the same name. It was also made in Tamil.

Even in Cochin where people have seen both its Tamil and Malayalam version, the film is doing extremely well. Till yesterday (Thursday) we had two theatres, today (Friday) we have opened up third screen so that?s an indicator of the reaction of the audience in south,? said the 41-year-old actor-director-producer.

Atul is expecting the box office collection to touch Rs.85 crore by this weekend.

As 31st was a holiday, we did a business of around Rs 21.57 crore, then yesterday (Thursday) we have touched about Rs.19 crore again. In that sense we have already done around Rs.41 crore and above, across India. Today is a Friday. In three days (including weekends) there is a possibility that we would cross Rs.80 to Rs.85 crore in India, said Atul.

Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande Continues To Attract Admirers

Parvin Dabas’s debut as writer-director current movie Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande was a stirring tale of a group of galat bandes finding their conscience and working for a big cause. Coming at a time that so many people in the country were engaging in a cause bigger than their individual selves, it was no surprise that the message of the movie resonated with the public. “Ours was a small film with a big message,” said Dabas. “The total budget including print and publicity was just 4 crore and despite the theatrical run having started slowly, it has remained steady with positive word of mouth and appreciative reviews.”

What Dabas is most gratified about is that his movie has added to the conversation in the country to issues of corruption and empowerment, issues and causes that he as a citizen completely supports. “Yes, there are a lot of pressing issues because of which some audience members might not have been in the mood to watch films, but the idea behind my movie was not only to make money, but to raise consciousness. Our low budget has ensured that we have more than recovered our investment through satellite, home video, digital and other rights. And Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande will remain a testament of these dramatic times for ever and ever.”

With the winds of change blowing over the country, Dabas’s approach to his film is to be commended. It is only further proof of commitment and fervour that was evident in every frame of his movie. And as we send this out, Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande is entering its second week of run.

Chatur Singh 2 Star

Chatur Singh 2 Star which was in the making for almost two years finally hits the screens today.
The film describes the droll journey of Sanjay Dutt from 2 star to 3 star.

The film revolves around Sanjay Dutt who knows everything about nothing... and he's on a mission to destroy himself! He is Chatur Singh 2 Star (Sanjay Dutt), an infamous member of the Mumbai Police Department who, in his career, has been most successful at botching up cases and making a fool of himself.

In spite of being a disgrace to the team, Chatur Singh has just been handed the biggest case in the department's history and of course, this is the perfect chance for him to prove everyone why he is the best officer they have.

Chatur Singh takes off on the secret mission to South Africa and he immediately ensures that there is trouble for all... because he is the biggest trouble of all! His antics are hazardous to health and definitely likely to cause serious injury; he is absolutely clueless and yet he keeps stumbling on all the right clues thanks to a little
help from the pretty Sonia (Ameesha Patel).

His bumbling mannerisms, clumsiness and of course his 'super intelligence' sets off a string of hilarious events which lead to more chaos and confusion than anyone could have ever imagined. The criminals are on the run, with Chatur in close pursuit!

Add to this chaotic fray, Pappu Panther (Suresh Menon), who is Chatur's right-hand or in this case "wrong-hand" man; he adores and worships his master Chatur, which makes him an even bigger idiot than Chatur himself!

The film has some dreary gag and pasteurized in a miserable way. Although Sanjay Dutt has completely justified his role but the film loses the grip post interval. The film which was made almost two years back makes it evident in few places.

Ameesha Patel has been wasted in the film. Ameesha was seen only exposing herself throughout the film. Even the presence of a big star like Sanjay Dutt couldn’t save this film.

On the whole with films like Not A Love Story and Sahi Dande Galat Bande releasing on the same date Chatur Singh 2 Star has hardly any scope for survival.

Khap - Movie Reviews

Khap

Director: Ajai Sinha
Producer: Sangita Sinha, Siddhant Sinha
Starring: Om Puri, Govind Namdeo, Yuvika Chaudhary, Sarrtaj Shammi Aunty,Mohnish Behl, Alok Nath, Manoj PahwaRelease
Date:29-07-2011

Khap projects too many things at one time, and fails to garner the attention of the audience. The film doesn’t fall into the genre of serious honour killings nor a typical Bollywood story. The director has wasted producers resources and delivers a complete dull film.

The narration of the story is interesting but yet predictable. The sloppiness in the direction worsens the twists and turns in the screenplay. The film is not well written or performed; the romantic track also does not keep the interest of a viewer to its seat. The issue that needs to be addressed seriously gets lost somewhere in the entire film.

The film's story is set in a Haryana village and revolves around the family of Omkar Chaudhary (Om Puri), an important Khap leader and the head of the village community that zealously follows and enforces the community tradition of not tolerating Inter-Gotr marriages and even resorting to the practice of killing their wayward progeny for the sake of community honour.

His son Madhur (Mohnish Bahl) stays away from him in Delhi with his wife (Anooradha Patel) and daughter Ria (Yuvika Chaudhry) since he has serious differences with Omkar and his ways. He works for the National Human Rights Commission and is sent to investigate into the death of a young couple to his village. He gets killed in a case of mistaken identity.

The performances fail to impact on the audience. In order to give him a positive shade, Om Puri is marred by a confused portrayal. Govind Namdeo hams like always. Yuvika Chaudhary ensures she looks stylish even post her father's funeral in the film. Sarrtaj fails to grab your attention. Shammi Aunty struggles to deliver her lines. Mohnish Behl is regular. Alok Nath has no idea of what to do in the film. Manoj Pahwa is the only actor who attempts to act.

Khap is a film which does not address the issue directly but wastes time in a campus song, honeymoon song, separation song, what else and what not. In a nutshell Khap fails to lay the impact in audiences mind.

Bubble Gum - Movie Reviews

Bubble Gum

Director:Sanjivan Lal
Producer:Sushma Kaul
Starring:Sachin Khedekar, Tanvi Azmi, Sohail Lakhani, Delzad Hiravali, Apoorva Arora, Suraj Singh
Release Date:29-07-2011

Bubble Gum is a film which revolves around a sweet love story. The film is set in Jamshedpur of early 80s, in an era when there were no TVs, Internet or mobile phones.

It’s a sweet and sensitive epic to growing up in an age when there was no Facebook, no internet and no mobiles. Fourteen-year-old Vedant’s love story with Jenny, the local cop’s daughter has such an innocence and angst to, it brings a smile to your lips.

Vedant, who has just stepped into his teens, is going through a disturbed phase in his life, because of academic pressure and his infatuation with a colony girl Jenny (Apoorva Arora). To worsen the situation, enters Ratan (Suraj Singh), his competitor, a guy from the same neighbourhood. Adding another twist to the so called love story, is the return of Vedant’s elder brother Vidur (Delzad Hiravali), who is deaf and comes home for his Holi holidays.

Parents Mukund (Sachin Khedekar) and Sudha (Tanvi Azmi), get too engrossed with Vidur and Vedant starts feeling neglected. After the whole muddle, Vedant realizes that not only his brother, but also his parents are special for him. He understands why his parents are considerate towards Vidur. The title proves right, as the flick shows that things may be stretchable, but the bubble of patience bursts after a point.

The characters look pretty realistic. The bell bottom pants would remind you of that era and so would the fact that then, love was just about having a glimpse of your beloved. The director has maintained the simplicity of time, which makes the movie look realistic. In fact, one of the scenes that show the importance of treating teenage children as friends and building a rapport with them has been shot very sensitively.

The movie is surely about parenting. The lead Sohail Lakhani, looks his age and his portrayal of a confused boy torn between infatuation, parents and academics is good.

Actors like Sachin Khedekar and Tanvi Azmi, who play Vidur and Vedant’s parents, show a lot of poise in their performance. Sanjivan Lal, has touched upon a topic that would take one back to school, when Internet and mobile phones didn't form a part of our existence.

A sensitive issue like how parents of teenage and psychically handicapped kids should deal with their problems has been depicted tactfully.

This beautiful was spoiled by incorporating some sad music to it. Had the movie been made without the party song sequence it would have looked much better.

Bubble has a charm to it, spilling over with mood, sentiment and message. The film offers a satisfying experience.

Movie Review - Singham

Ajay Devgn, Kajal Aggarwal,

Full Review
The film is about a humble village cop, Bajirao Singham (Ajay Devgn) who enforces law like a preschool moral science teacher. All accused and convicts are let off with a warning, as they're usually his friends and/or belong to the good ol' gaaon ki mitti, which is later distinguished from shehar ki dhul through a clichéd reference.A certain degree of dramatic excess is only to be expected in a Bollywood action flick. But Singham, aimed at those who like their cinema stirred and shaken in familiar and simple ways, is a rare cop-and-crook drama that carries little excess baggage.

It could quite easily have turned into yet another turgid turn-off. It is anything but. Singham is refreshingly crisp and utterly uncluttered all the way through to the bitter end. It does take a few minutes to warm up, but once it does, there’s no stopping Singham.

An honest young policeman shoots himself in the head when he is falsely hauled up for corruption. The cop’s widow publicly accuses the local extortionist Jaikant Shirke (Prakash Raj, reprising the role he played in the Tamil original) of causing her husband's death. But, given the enormous clout the criminal and wannabe politician wields, he goes scot-free.

Away from the city, in a small outpost on the Maharashtra-Goa border, another no-nonsense cop, Bajirao Singham (Ajay Devgn), is on a one-man mission. He is a friend in need, a willing do-gooder, a mediator between feuding villagers and the violent nemesis of all wrongdoers in town. He puts away his service revolver when he fights. His blows pack the punch of a tiger’s paw and his belt is a whiplash that serves to rub insult to injury when his prey is down and out.

When Singham's path crosses that of the gang-lord, he wins the first round hands down. The humiliated baddie goes on the rampage. The cop is transferred to the city. Singham walks into the lair of the hunter, tides over a few initial hiccups, and then, egged on by his girlfriend (Kajal Agarwal), declares all-out war on the criminal and his evil empire. What’s the big deal? To be honest, Singham has little to offer by way of original ideas. In fact, the film makes repeated allusions to other cop films – Zanjeer, Dabangg and Ajay Devgn’s own Gangaajal. It revels in the clichés that have forever been a part and parcel of the genre. Yet, Yunus Sajawal’s screenplay and Shetty’s treatment manage to deliver many moments that catch you by surprise.

Shetty plays up the epic quality of the good vs evil clash without letting go of the strong streak of humour that is the Golmaal director's obvious forte. Thoroughly entertaining and consistently watchable, Singham delivers more than your money’s worth. If a feral analogy could be applied to a film, Singham is like the roar of a lion, unsubtle, unambiguous and power-packed.

The film draws much of its fizz from the outstanding central performances. It is difficult to imagine any other Mumbai actor lending quite the kind of conviction that Devgn does to the character of the teed-off lawman. Devgn’s eyes do the talking; the six-pack, mercifully, remains a footnote.
Just as impressive is the mercurial Prakash Raj, who flips from menacing to comical and then back to menacing with such effortless aplomb that you can only sit back and marvel.

But the real soul of Singham is provided by the slew of Marathi actors in the cast, who breathe life into even the most minor of characters. Especially worth a mention is Ashok Saraf as a cynical and ageing constable who decides to give redemption a final shot.Singham is an old-fashioned but rousing Hindi commercial film. It has super-duper hit written all over it. No matter how dismissive you might be of films that have no space for shades of grey.
